Language Laboratory

The DCHR WDA Language Laboratory is a specialized resource center that provides computer-based learning and online instruction for District government employees.  The purpose of the DCHR WDA Language Lab is to promote foreign language development through Rosetta Stone and computer-based instruction through the District’s online e-learning portal - MindLeaders.

By using the DCHR WDA Language Lab, employees will strengthen individual and organizational performance through skill and competency development.

The guidelines for utilizing the DCHR WDA Language Lab are as follows:
  • The DCHR WDA Language Lab will be used solely to access the Rosetta Stone software for foreign language development and to utilize the District’s online e-learning system.

  • The DCHR WDA Language Lab is open to all District government employees, by appointment only.  Appointments are available for two sessions daily. AM sessions are held from 9 am to 12 pm.  PM sessions are held from 1 pm to 4 pm.

  • The DCHR WDA Language Lab will be closed from 12 pm to 1 pm daily, as well as every other Friday for scheduled maintenance and software updates.  The Language Lab operates in accordance with the DC government schedule, and will be closed on all government observed holidays.

  • To schedule an appointment to utilize the Language Lab, employees must submit a Training Form 1, including their supervisor's signature, to their agency’s training coordinator.

  • Using the Aspen registration system, the training coordinator will register the employee for the desired session.  Once registered, the employee will receive an email confirmation for the scheduled appointment.  Employees should not arrive for appointments without a confirmation.

  • Employees who will be utilizing the Language Lab to access the e-learning system must have an online e-learning user ID and password prior to registering for a Language Lab appointment.

  • All District employees who visit the Language Lab will expected to comply with the WDA Training Policies detailed on pages 42 and 43 of the Training Catalog.  Failure to adhere to these policies will prohibit the employee’s future use of the Language Lab.

  • Employees who arrive more than 30 minutes late for their scheduled appointment will not be admitted to the Lab.  These employees, as well as those who miss their scheduled appointments, will be treated as “no-shows.”  Agencies will be charged a “no-show” fee of $40 per missed appointment.

  • Employees may cancel their scheduled appointment at least 48 hours in advance to avoid the “no-show” fee.  Missed or canceled appointments must be rescheduled through their agency’s training coordinator.

  • Upon arrival, all employees must sign in to use the Language Lab.  Likewise, all employees must sign out upon departure.

  • Certificates for the e-learning modules will be generated by the online e-learning system upon completion of the course.  Employees may print the certificates from their office or home computer, as printing capabilities are not available in the Language Lab.

  • Certificates for the Rosetta Stone – Spanish modules will be issued by WDA at the completion of Level I and Level II.

  • Food and beverages (including water) are not permitted in the DCHR WDA Language Lab.  Employees may use the break room located next to the WDA office.

The DCHR WDA Language Laboratory is located at 441 4th Street, NW, Suite 850 North.  For more information regarding the Language Lab, please call (202) 727-1523.
