Minimum Requirements: Firefighter/EMT

Applicants for the position of Firefighter/EMT must:

  • Be a US citizen at the time of appointment
  • Be at least 19 years of age and shall not have passed his or her 31st birthday as of the closing date of the position vacancy announcement, March 25, 2006
  • Possess a current valid motor vehicle operator's permit at the time of appointment
  • Possess a high school diploma or a certificate of equivalency (GED) issued by a recognized department of education
  • Pass the written firefighter/EMT entry-level examination on May 20, 2006
  • Pass a scheduled physical abilities test
  • Pass a thorough background check
  • Pass thorough medical and psychological examinations
  • Submit to urinalysis and test negative for the presence of controlled substances/illegal drugs
  • Possess a high moral character and commitment to service
